I agree with the hacks mentioned here though I also believe that it depends a lot on the manufacturer and quality. I have been using an Asus Zenbook pro for 4.5+ years and have never cared about not keeping it plugged in or increasing the battery life while working. It still gives me 3–5 hours backup with Ubuntu.
